Together Is Now Streaming, and It Could Strengthen or Shatter Your Relationship.

We present a challenge for those in enduring partnerships who are fans of the horror genre: Get comfortable with your significant other and view Together. The 2025 indie hit has now made its launch on a streaming platform on Hulu. Outwardly, it might appear like conventional biological terror, but beneath Together exists a deep meditation about the ways we decide to love each other.

An Introductory Film Investigating Partnership Complexities

Together represents the debut feature-length film for director Michael Shanks. It features actors Alison Brie and Dave Franco as Tim and Millie, an unmarried couple that have been together for ten years. Having wed in actuality in 2017, the two stars infuse a particular energy to their roles, masterfully depicting both the good and bad of a committed partnership.

The story begins when Tim and Millie transition from the urban environment to the rural area for Millie’s job. A somewhat stereotypical narrative setup, admittedly, but that’s largely where the cliches end. Together transforms into as much a examination of mental states of the pair’s relationship as it is a body horror flick.

A Paranormal Spark

While walking near their rural residence, a storm hits, and the protagonists fall into an subterranean cavern. After a night spent there and managing to escape, a strange force starts to affect the pair. This force compels a otherworldly bond between them that goes far beyond typical partnership.

The entire film is a slow burn horror experience, interspersing bits of fever-dream horrors, disturbing (but tastefully done) biological grotesqueries, and genuinely funny dialogue (sometimes amidst something disturbing). Shanks skillfully blends these components expertly and delivers them in a slowly mounting atmosphere of fear.

Layered Performances

A great deal of Together is exclusively the performances of its stars, and they deftly portray manifold depths to the characters’ relationship. Millie’s confidence and emotional bond is deteriorating due to a distance. Her subconscious resentment of Tim for his hesitance to chase only his floundering music career slowly bubbles to the surface.

Tim, on the other hand feels trapped and separated by Millie, who’s the cause they’ve moved to the country and distant from his social circle. He dreads the notion of totally forfeiting his sense of self in another person. This fear is intensified by the fact he does not operate a vehicle and needs Millie for getting around.

Shanks’ smartest move in Together refrains from painting Tim or Millie the definite antagonist.

Both characters confront the sort of issues that arise in most partnerships a decade in. Deep down, they have affection for each other. They share moments of joy, comfort one another, and open up at times. But below this facade, there’s an persistent current of uncertainty about their relationship.

Allegory and Meaning

While the paranormal elements in Together represent these anxieties of codependency and fully committing to a partner, the metaphor never feels clumsy or self-important. Instead, these visceral horror elements offer a ideal counterpart to the character-driven drama. Both the horror and the drama serve the other in harmony.

A Debated Finale

Together’s ending, which won’t be spoiled here, has left audiences divided on the film’s ultimate message about unhealthy partnerships. Accounts suggest that single viewers have seen the movie as a compelling reason for remaining unattached. On the other hand, a few pairs who were in conflict found that the film ultimately assisted them make up.

If you are alone or with a partner, your own interpretation could potentially serve as a telling indicator of how you think about commitment. Will the finale sow feelings of uneasiness and dread, or a heartwarming sense of hope? Will you recognize your own traits in one of the characters and feel frustration, or simply turn to your other half and utter, “We could get through that together”?

Regardless of the outcome, Together is an test you can undertake today.

Together is available to watch on Hulu's platform now.
